Mounjaro 5 mg pre-filled pen (tirzepatide)

Mounjaro 5 mg (tirzepatide) is a prescription-only medicine supplied as a solution for injection in a pre-filled pen. It is used to support blood glucose control in adults with type 2 diabetes and may also be prescribed as part of a weight management plan under the supervision of a qualified healthcare professional. Supply is subject to a valid UK prescription and appropriate clinical screening.

Mounjaro may be prescribed for:

• Type 2 diabetes management

• Blood glucose control alongside diet and lifestyle measures

• Weight management (when clinically appropriate and prescribed)

Mounjaro may be suitable for adults who:

• Have type 2 diabetes

• Require additional glycaemic control

• Have been assessed and prescribed by a UK-registered prescriber

• Are able to use injectable medication safely

• Active ingredient: Tirzepatide

Administered as a once-weekly subcutaneous injection into the abdomen, thigh, or upper arm. Patients must follow prescriber instructions and refer to the patient information leaflet. Dose changes should only be made under medical supervision.

Common side effects include:

• Nausea

• Vomiting

• Abdominal discomfort

• Not suitable for patients with a history of pancreatitis unless advised by a specialist

• Not recommended during pregnancy or breastfeeding

• Contraindicated in patients with hypersensitivity to tirzepatide or any excipients

• Use with caution in patients with severe gastrointestinal disease

• Not recommended in patients with a personal or family history of medullary thyroid carcinoma (MTC) or Multiple Endocrine Neoplasia syndrome type 2 (MEN2)

• Patients must provide accurate and complete medical information

• Do not share medication with others

• May increase the risk of hypoglycaemia when used with insulin or sulfonylureas

• Patients should be cautious when driving or operating machinery if experiencing symptoms of low blood sugar

• Inform your prescriber of all current medications before starting treatment

Used pens must be disposed of in an appropriate sharps container. Do not dispose of needles in household waste. Follow local guidelines or consult your pharmacist for safe disposal.
