The most common problems involve those caused from unwanted Dermal Filler, whether it be lumps in lips or swollen tear troughs, caused by incorrect placement of filler or poor injection technique. The majority of these dermal fillers are comprised of Hyaluronic Acid which thankfully can be dissolved with Hyalase injections.
Hyalase(Hyaluronidase) is an enzyme which can occur naturally in the body. It is a prescription only medication which has an off-licence use in aesthetic medicine, to dissolve the dermal filler when the treatment has not produced the desired outcome. This will restore the face to its natural shape and volume. The use of Hyaluronidase is also vital, if there is the possibility of vascular occlusion or impending necrosis to the tissues of the face, which, although very rare, has catastrophic results on the healthy skin and tissues.
Following a full Medical History, consultation and plan, Medical photographs will be taken. A skin patch test will be carried out (except in the case of emergency) by injection of Hyalase into the subcutaneous tissue of the forearm. If a negative patch test result is obtained, then after 20 minutes treatment can go ahead to dissolve the unwanted dermal filler. The skin will be cleansed and small injections made into the area as needed. Massage will be applied and you will need to remain in the clinic for a further 30 minutes following treatment. Usually some of the dissolving and dispersing effects can be noticed straight away but will improved over the following few days. The skin may appear slightly red following treatment but this fades quickly.
The treatment of Hyalase is highly specialised as results can be unpredictable, so it is prudent to have treatment with a fully trained and experienced medical practitioner. This treatment will not be available at all clinics because of this.
