Introduction:
Excel V is a non-invasive laser treatment designed to address various vascular and pigmentary concerns. Proper aftercare is crucial for the best outcomes and minimising any potential side effects.
Immediate Aftercare (First 24-48 Hours):
- Cooling: Expect mild redness, swelling, or a warm sensation in the treated area. Use cold compresses intermittently (20 minutes on, 20 minutes off) to alleviate these symptoms.
- Hydration: Drink plenty of water to assist in the healing process.
- Avoid Heat: Stay away from hot baths, saunas, or intense physical activity that induces sweating.
- Cleanliness: Clean the area gently with lukewarm water and a mild soap. Pat dry without rubbing.
- Moisturise: Apply any ointment or cream prescribed by your practitioner. If none is prescribed, use a gentle moisturiser to prevent skin dryness.
Continued Care (Days 3 and Beyond):
- Sun Protection: Keep the treated area protected from direct sun exposure. When exposed, apply a broad-spectrum sunscreen with SPF 30 or higher. Direct sunlight can result in hyperpigmentation on the treated site.
- Avoid Scratching: There may be some itching or peeling as the skin heals. Do not scratch or pick at the treated area to avoid scarring.
- Skincare: Continue to keep the area clean and moisturised. Avoid any exfoliating or abrasive products on the treated site for at least one week.
- Makeup: If the facial area was treated, it's best to wait at least 24 hours before applying makeup.
Potential Complications to Monitor:
- Signs of Infection: Increased redness, warmth, pus, or escalating pain might suggest an infection. If these symptoms appear, contact your practitioner.
- Blistering or Burns: While rare, alert your practitioner if you experience blistering or burns.
- Pigmentation Changes: Any darkening (hyperpigmentation) or lightening (hypopigmentation) of the treated skin should be reported during follow-up appointments.
Follow-Up Appointments:
Ensure you attend all scheduled post-treatment appointments for assessment and to address any concerns in a timely manner.
